The Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) is an astronomical observatory currently being constructed by the European Southern Observatory at Cerro Armazones in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. When completed, it will be the world's largest optical/near-infrared telescope at almost 40 meters in diameter.
